Janis Monsky Friedman (95) of Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of Morris and Rose Monsky from Montgomery, Alabama died January 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family that includes her precious dog, Petey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Paul Friedman, Sr, her sister, Sylvia Monsky Raflo, her brother, Leroy Monsky. Sr, and daughter-in-law, Cathy Haley Friedman. Janis is survived by her children: Paul Friedman (Cathy) and Mark Friedman (Shirley Kincaid), and her daughter and the most devoted caretaker, Sandy Friedman. Nana is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Julie Fleisig (Jeff Leavitt), Kate Lourie (Josh), Brad Friedman(Stephanie) and Haley Grover (Rett), and 8 great grandchildren. Janis, a beautiful lady inside and out, was the First Lady of City Paper Company for 56 years. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Baptist Montclair Hospital for many years. Janis was a lifetime member of Temple Emanu-El, where she also volunteered for many years. She loved Alabama football and golf. She will always be remembered as the most loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. It will always be said that Nana did not have a selfish bone in her body. Her beautiful smile and delightful kindness will never be forgotten. The burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery on Tuesday, January 9 at 1:00 pm. A 2:00 pm memorial service at Temple Emanu-El will be held with a reception to follow. Friends are asked to consider making contributions to the Janis and Paul Friedman Endowment Fund at Temple Emanu-El. The Friedman family would like to thank Oasis Hospice, our friend Beth Johnson, and the many angels that have given her such loving care.
